Economic Research – Impact of Travel on State Economies Database

The ITSE (Impact of Travel on State Economies) Online database contains estimates of:

  • The travel expenditures
  • The travel-generated payroll
  • The employment and tax receipts

These estimates are for 1999-2002 and are broken out for the U.S. overall, as well as for each state and the District of Columbia. All the estimates in this database are produced from TIA's Travel Economic Impact Model (TEIM), a proprietary economic model developed to estimate the travel economic impact generated by travel away from home in the United States.

The ITSE Online database can be searched by year, by state and by tax receipts. To obtain the estimates of travel expenditures and travel-generated payroll and employment, please choose Search by Year or Search by State option. To obtain the estimates of travel-generated tax receipts, please use Search by Tax Receipts option.

Note: The estimates of the international travelers' impact are not available for some states due to small sample size for international visitors.
