TIA FORECASTS SUMMER LEISURE TRAVEL ESSENTIALLY FLAT IN 2006
Historically high fuel prices are expected to have a negative impact on summer travel and are accompanied by broader economic concerns for many Americans. During Thursday's press conference for TIA's Summer 2006 Forecast, it was revealed that Americans will take 325.6 million leisure person-trips during June, July and August 2006, equating to a travel volume growth of less than 1 percent this year amid relatively soft travel intentions. Although travelers plan to spend an average of $1,033 on their longest pleasure trip this summer, essentially unchanged from the summer of 2005, they will have to economize in other areas to compensate for higher hotel room rates and airline fares in addition to higher gas costs. WONDERS OF AMERICA LAUNCHES IN USA TODAY
On May 5th a special section in USA TODAY launched TIA's "Wonders of America Sweepstakes," inspired by the U.S. Postal Service's (USPS) "Wonders of America" stamp series. These stamps highlight American superlatives such as the largest canyon and the tallest geyser, promoting travel to destinations throughout the 50 states. The USPS will release the stamps on May 27. To drive summer travel, TIA has developed the "Wonders of America Sweepstakes." From May 1, 2006 through July 15, 2006, visitors to SeeAmerica.org will have the chance to enter to win one of seven grand prizes that include a $500 American Express Gift Card; round-trip coach-class airline tickets for two from CheapTickets.com; six-day car rental voucher from Hertz; and a five-night, six-day hotel voucher from Marriott. Visit www.SeeAmerica.org and click on the link for Wonders of America Sweepstakes. Click here for official rules.

INTERNATIONAL POW WOW® GENERATES BILLIONS IN TRAVEL BUSINESS
Last week more than 5,000 travel industry delegates from 70 countries were in Orlando, Florida for the 38th Annual International Pow Wow. With more than 99 percent of mutual appointment requests fulfilled adding up to 47,000 pre-scheduled appointments between U.S. travel suppliers and international buyers taking place, TIA estimates that International Pow Wow will generate more than $4 billion in travel to the U.S. over the next three years.

Pow Wow highlights include a keynote speech by Delta Airlines CEO Gerald Grinstein; a "Mission into America" game show where several delegates were awarded $7,500 in cash prizes by American Express, and an "Ambassadors of Rock" luncheon concert featuring Louisiana blues and rock icon Marc Broussard, sponsored by Hard Rock International.

Over 300 international and domestic media turned out for Pow Wow. TIA President and CEO Roger Dow and TIA National Chair and Chairman Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Jay Rasulo held a standing-room only press conference on international visitation and facilitation.

Delegates enjoyed the theme park thrills of Orlando during spectacular evening events sponsored by SeaWorld Orlando, Universal Studios Orlando, and the grand finale at Disney's Animal Kingdom with grammy-award winning artist Donna Summer.
