COOK
TESTIFIES ON THE HILL ABOUT TRAVEL TRENDS RELATED TO NATIONAL PARKS
Dr. Suzanne Cook, senior vice president of research at TIA, testified
recently on Capital Hill before the House Resources Committee's
Subcommittee on National Parks about current travel trends and their
possible impact on tourism to national parks. Cook told legislators
that preferences towards short trips to "mega-destinations" over
the past decade have contributed to stagnate growth in national
parks visitation, adding that a more in-depth understanding of the
changing tourism industry and the travelers it serves could better
enable the National Park Service to adapt to the new trends. In
addition to Dr. Cook's testimony, TIA members Mike Cerletti, state
tourism director of New Mexico, and Bob Warren with the Redding
(CA) CVB testified as witnesses before the committee. |
