TIA
AND INDUSTRY NEWS
SUMMER TRAVEL ON THE MINDS OF AMERICANS
A recent survey by TIA/Synovate reveals that Americans are ready
for a summer vacation. Over 80 percent of Americans planning to
travel this summer have already started planning their longest trip and
30 percent are planning earlier than they did last year. In fact, 38
percent of those planning to take a summer trip have decided on or
booked their mode of transportation, while 21 percent have already arranged
lodging at their destination. Strong air and hotel demand has resulted in
higher prices and fewer bargains, possibly prompting travelers to act
earlier to lock in the best prices. Synovate is the market research arm
of Aegis Group plc. For more results from this survey,

MODEL PORTS-OF-ENTRY MOVING FORWARD
As part of the Rice-Chertoff Vision for enhancing facilitation of inbound international
travel, TIA is directly participating in the Model Ports-of-Entry project. The federal
government has chosen two airports – Washington Dulles International Airport and Bush
Intercontinental Airport in Houston – as models for creating greater efficiency in the
inspection process and a more hospitable welcome for arriving international visitors.
Several TIA member companies are poised to play a role in this project alongside key
airlines and airport authorities. To read more about the Rice-Chertoff Vision, click

TOURISM CARES PROJECT REBUILDS AND REPAIRS ON THE GULF COAST
Hundreds of tourism industry employees gathered on the Mississippi
Gulf Coast recently for the Tourism-Caring for America Cleanup
Project.
Organized by Tourism Cares for Tomorrow, a public charity for the restoration
and preservation of worldwide tourism sites, the event brought hope and restoration
to communities affected by Hurricane Katrina. The two day hands-on project
provided over 5,000 hours of hard labor and helped repair tourism sites crucial
to the economies of the Gulf Coast. Tourism is a $6.35 billion industry along the
coast and its recovery is critical to the overall rehabilitation of the region.
