RASULO
SETS ONE-YEAR DEADLINE FOR INTERNATIONAL MARKETING PLAN
In his inaugural speech as TIA National Chair, Jay Rasulo remarked
that three-quarters of a billion people are traveling outside of
their country every year and over the next 15 years that number
is expected to double, emphasizing that "capturing our fair share
of that market ought to be the top priority for our industry, and
a top priority for our country." Rasulo then welcomed guest speaker
Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Michael Chertoff
who told attendees that "working with homeland security is essential
to our industry's success and our nation's safety." For further

TIA
LAUNCHES WEBINAR SERIES WITH AVIAN FLU EXPERT
TIA's new eSummit Series program kicked off with a web seminar on
the topical avian flu virus. Dr. Phyllis Kozarsky, expert consultant
on infectious diseases with the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) and editor of CDC's Health Information for
International Travel, presented a concise and informed account
of the status of the virus, reiterating that currently there is
no evidence of sustained H5N1 transmission among people. She also
conveyed that while the H5N1 virus is a leading pandemic candidate,
we must continue to monitor other possibilities. Everyone and every
industry must push forward with pandemic preparedness planning before
final warning signs are detected. To download a copy of Dr. Kozarsky's
presentation for $30, click here.

NEW
INTERNATIONAL MARKET DATA AVAILABLE
Global travel is expected to increase in 2006, and the United States
is predicted to see increases in tourism from each of the five countries
in TIA's international market forecasts and reviews. A strong global
economy is contributing significantly to these predicted increases
in both global travel and in travel to the U.S., although strong
foreign currencies, improved marketing from the U.S. government,
and enhanced political ties between the U.S. and other countries
will all play their part in boosting travel to the United States.
