Here are suggested activities to promote World Tourism Day and the power of travel on Sept. 27:

  • Issue press release to local business reporters highlighting tourism's value to local/state economies
  • Schedule TV or radio interviews featuring local tourism leaders and underscore the power of travel and "Tourism Enriches" theme
  • Submit an Op-Ed to local newspapers
  • Secure a proclamation from state or city government recognizing World Tourism Day and the impact of travel on local communities and states
  • Promote heritage programs that preserve and enhance the attributes of local communities
    • Work with attractions to provide a special offer (reduced admission/buy-one-get-one free, etc.) on Sept. 27
  • Customize your home page with a salute to World Tourism Day (official logo available)
  • Distribute U.S. Travel Industry Fact Cards to:
    • Visitors to information centers
    • Members
    • Constituents, stakeholders, board of directors
    • Government leaders and staffs
    • Mayor/City Council members
    • Attractions
    • Hotel managers and staff
    • Convention Center/meeting facility staff
  • Use WTO's 30-second PSA video in lobby monitors or local news channels
  • Use "Tourism Enriches" slogan and logo on destination collateral
  • Distribute the WTO flyer 
  • Provide story ideas to journalists based on the "Tourism Enriches" theme
