Discover America Week Brazil - 2006 Highlights
Discover America Week Brazil, the annual week-long USA-focused travel industry event, was successfully held on October 23-29, 2006 in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, breaking all attendance record in all events. The events were produced by TIA in conjunction with the Brazilian Association of Travel Agents (ABAV) and the See America Vacations Group.
Combined total attendance exceeded 2,900 Brazilian travel trade representatives, media, U.S. and Brazilian travel experts and suppliers.

The Discover America Reception, at the Hard Rock Cafe in Rio de Janeiro on October 26, 2006, was organized by American Airlines and Travel Industry Association of America. More than 1,500 travel trade representatives, media, and U.S. travel suppliers participated in the reception, with support from Las Vegas CVA, Dollar Rent a Car, Anhauser Busch and Revista Próxima Viagem. Guests were entertained by a live band and an Elvis performance.
Over 1,500 Brazilian travel trade, journalists and U.S. organizations attended the Discover America Reception.

At the Discover America Media Luncheon, held in São Paulo on October 23, 2006, representatives of 29 U.S. travel organizations met one on one with over 50 key travel writers and Brazilian trade and consumer journalists. The travel press received the latest and most useful information on U.S. travel products. The title sponsor of the Discover America Media Gala Dinner were Visit Florida and Las Vegas CVA.

The Discover America Media Reception and Travel Writers Award Ceremony was held immediately following the Discover America Media Dinner. Over 60 media, and U.S. and Brazilian travel executives participated in these two media events. The Discover America Travel Writers Award was given to "Silvio Cioffi" of the Folha de São Paulo newspaper for its special issue of "Florida & Orlando". The award was sponsored by Marriott International, American Airlines, Alamo, TIA and Visit Florida

The sixth annual Discover America Educational Seminar, produced by TIA, was held with the support of title sponsor Marriott International. TIA's Director Latin America gave the keynote address to 228 Brazilian travel trade and U.S. and Brazilian travel experts. The seminar program featured audio-visual presentations by TIA members and partner organizations on U.S. destinations, and travel-related products and services, including: Marriott International, Alamo, VISIT FLORIDA, Las Vegas CVA, Puerto Rico Tourism, Orlando Tourism Office, SeeAmerica Vacations Group, Capital Region USA and US Visit Program.

The ABAV Fair of the Americas ended the See America Week events on October 25-29, 2006 in Rio de Janeiro. The inauguration of the Discover America Pavilion at ABAV included 32 U.S. companies. Overall attendance at ABAV reached over 19,000 travel trade professionals, and the first time the event was opened to Brazilian consumers.
