Katrina Recovery Resources

As relief efforts continue in the Gulf Coast communities of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, the travel industry will continue to help our country, our loved ones and our fellow Americans return to a sense of hope and security. 

Please view the links below for the latest on disaster relief services, jobs for hurricane victims, media information, and what is being done throughout the industry to support recovery efforts.

Disaster Relief Funds, Support & Hurricane Katrina Donations:

Jobs for Hurricane Katrina Victims:

TIA, in partnership with the Travel & Tourism Coalition, USDM.net and the Travel Business Roundtable, is offering free use of a job bank to help workers displaced by the hurricane find new employment. www.katrinajobs.org will launch on September 15th.

Our friends and colleagues in nearly every sector of the travel industry are helping to spread vital information about Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.

 

Industry inititatives to help victims:

  •  Visit Florida is raising funds for victims through "Getaways for Gulf Aid."
  • The American Gaming Association has set up the Gaming Industry Relief Fund to raise industry dollars to provide disaster relief and assistance to affected gaming employees in Mississippi and Louisiana.
  • The National Restaurant Association will be holding a national Dine for America fundraiser on October 5th to raise funds for those impacted by Hurricane Katrina.
  • A special fund-raising campaign has been launched on behalf of the American Red Cross Hurricane 2005 Relief Fund.The Cendant Charitable Foundation will be matching employee donations up to an aggregate $500,000.
  • Alaska Airlines, America West, American, ATA, Continental, Delta, JetBlue, Northwest, United, U.S. Airways, and Air Canada worked together during "Operation Air Care" to fly more than 25,000 New Orleans residents from the area.  It was an unprecedented U.S. civilian airlift.
  • Carnival Cruise Lines chartered three ships to the federal government to house evacuees and/or emergency workers.
  • The Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation immediately donated $1 million to hurricane relief.  The company is also shipping thousands of vehicles to affected areas to provide transportation to residents and emergency workers.
  • The Texas Governor's Office have posted details of benefit concerts throughout the state in aid of Hurricane Katrina victims.  In all, 120 concerts have either taken place or are scheduled.  Click here for listings.
