National Council of State Tourism Directors
The National Council of State Tourism Directors (NCSTD), brings together the tourism directors from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the five U.S. territories and their staff. NCSTD serves state/territory tourism offices as:
- A common, unified voice
- A catalyst for developing programs that benefit all states and territories
- A harmonizer in the diversity of needs, priorities and values
Established in 1969, the National Council of State Tourism Directors the first TIA Council operates within the organizational framework of the Travel Industry Association of America (TIA). The specific activities of NCSTD are directed by a chair and vice chair who are elected annually by the NCSTD Board of Directors and membership. The NCSTD chair is also a member of the TIA Board of Directors providing a voice for state and territory tourism offices at the national level.
The mission of the NCSTD is to leverage the collective strength of state tourism offices to influence public policy, and to provide leadership and the forum for information sharing and education on issues impacting tourism.
The NCSTD holds three membership meetings each year: the NCSTD Spring Forum in March; the annual meeting held in conjunction with the Educational Seminar for Tourism Organizations (ESTO) to install new officers and to discuss program plans; and a meeting held in conjunction with the Marketing Outlook Forum in October. In between formal NCSTD meetings, the Board of Directors and working committees meet regularly to carry on the business, programs and services required by NCSTD.
