National Council of State Tourism Directors (NCSTD)

The mission of the NCSTD is to leverage the collective strength of state tourism offices to influence public policy, and to provide leadership and the forum for information sharing and education on issues impacting tourism.

Established in 1969, the National Council of State Tourism Directors (NCSTD), brings together the tourism directors from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the five U.S. territories – and their staff. NCSTD serves state/territory tourism offices as:

  • A common, unified voice
  • A catalyst for developing programs that benefit all states and territories
  • A common thread in the diversity of needs, priorities and values

The National Council of State Tourism Directors – the first TIA Council – operates within the organizational framework of the Travel Industry Association (TIA). The specific activities of NCSTD are directed by an elected chair, vice chair and 13-member Board of Directors.  The NCSTD chair is also a member of the TIA Board of Directors providing a voice for state and territory tourism offices at the national level.

RESOURCE CENTER - NCSTD maintains a resource center for state tourism directors.  This is a clearing house of resources ranging from general information to RFP's to NCSTD sponsored research.
