  Forecast of Inbound Travel to the U.S.
  • In 2003, international arrivals to the U.S. declined by 4 percent over 2002, for a total of 40.4 million.

  • Recovery will begin in 2004 when international arrivals are forecast to grow by 8.5 percent to reach a total of 43.8 million.

  • U.S. arrivals from Europe for 2003 grew by one percent over 2002 for a total of 8.7 million. Europe is still the top tourism generating region. European arrivals to the U.S. are forecast to increase by 11.3 percent in 2004.

  • Asian arrivals to the U.S. declined by 12 percent in 2003 over 2002, for a total of 5 million arrivals. U.S. Arrivals from Asia are forecast to increase by 17.3 percent in 2004.

  • U.S. arrivals from South America totaled 1.4 million in 2003, a decline of 16 percent over 2002. South American arrivals are forecast to increase by 7.0 percent in 2004.
