In 2003,
international arrivals to the U.S. declined
by 4 percent over 2002, for a total of 40.4 million.
Recovery
will begin in 2004 when international arrivals are forecast
to grow by 8.5 percent to reach a total of 43.8 million.
U.S.
arrivals from Europe for 2003 grew by one percent
over 2002 for a total of 8.7 million. Europe is still the
top
tourism
generating region. European arrivals to the U.S.
are forecast to increase by 11.3 percent in 2004.
Asian
arrivals to the U.S. declined by 12 percent in 2003
over 2002, for a total of 5 million arrivals. U.S. Arrivals
from Asia
are forecast to increase by 17.3 percent in 2004.
U.S.
arrivals from South America totaled 1.4 million in
2003, a decline
of 16 percent over 2002. South American arrivals are
forecast to increase by 7.0 percent in 2004.
