The mission of the NCSTD is to leverage the collective strength of state tourism offices to influence public policy, and to provide leadership and the forum for information sharing and education on issues impacting tourism.

Travel Counselor Training Program Endorsement

The Travel Counselor Training Program endorsement was established to:

  • Promote high quality travel information services nationwide
  • Encourage individual states to develop a certification program that would enhance the personal efforts, skill and achievement of individual travel counselors

By publicly recognizing the value and professional quality of the services provided by travel counselors, the National Council of State Tourism Directors believes that these counselors will be motivated to further enhance their professional development skills and ultimately result in more satisfied customers at the travel information center.

Endorsement of individual state travel counselor training programs is available exclusively to NCSTD members and/or the officially designated state entity responsible for the state travel/welcome information center program.

The travel counselor training programs in eleven states have earned the national endorsement: Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, New Hampshire, North Carolina,  Ohio, South Carolina, and Texas.
