NCDO Destiny Awards
Rewarding Excellence in Destination Marketing
The NCDO Destiny Awards are for local and regional destination marketing organizations that are members of the U.S. Travel Association. They were created in 1993 by U.S.Travel's National Council of Destination Organizations (NCDO) to:
- recognize members for excellence and creative accomplishment in travel marketing and promotion, and
- foster the development of imaginative and innovative destination marketing promotion programs and activities.
There are four opportunities for recognition in two broad areas:
- Special Projects - Examples of eligible projects in this category include but are not limited to the following: development projects, i.e, building a new information center; tourism awareness activities that promote a wider understanding of travel and tourism as a major industry; programs that focus on the education, training or employment of current or future employees; crisis management programs; and socially responsible efforts such as hunger relief, community outreach activities and environmentally sensitive programs.
- Marketing Programs -Two awards are presented in this category; one for a single targeted promotion, one for a full campaign, and one for interactive marketing. Entries may include individual or cooperative destination marketing programs or campaigns including special promotions; events/festivals; direct marketing; electronic, technical or interactive marketing efforts; creative elements in all forms of media; and public relations efforts targeted to either the domestic or international market. See the entry guidlines for more details.
Destiny Award entries are due May 22, 2009 and the winners will be announced and recognized at the Annual Awards Banquet held during the Educational Seminar for Tourism Organizations (ESTO).
